Are You Eligible for Specialized Home Repairs?

Chicago - The Albany Park Community Center (APCC) serves seniors and people with disabilities by furnishing funds for specific home improvements. The Home Repairs for Accessible and Independent Living Program (H-Rail) enables them to become more independent and provides home-improvements to maintain adequate housing. Funded by the City of Chicago 's Department of Housing, H-Rail offers services that include:

  • Installing smoke detectors/carbon monoxide detectors/fire extinguishers;
  • Installing grab bars in bathroom;
  • Patching and painting walls and ceilings;
  • Door repair and replacement;
  • Window and glass repair or replacement;
  • Installing storm windows/storm doors;
  • Floor and tile repair;
  • Replacing locks;
  • Minor plumbing repairs, hand-held showers, lever-handled faucets, vanities, sinks and toilets.
  • Installation of hand rails

Clients must submit specific documentation during the application process. After notification of eligibility, an assessment of the property is conducted. Once all the approvals are in place, work will be scheduled and completed at a mutually agreeable time.
