APCC Celebrates
the Rich Diversity of Albany Park
The holidays are a great reminder of the things that we all
have in common despite our diverse backgrounds. Holidays
encourage us to celebrate family, giving, kindness and joy.
This year saw a great deal of celebration among APCC clients
and staff, particularly as we close out 2006. Most recently,
the Adult Programs staff hosted their annual World
Culture Day, recognizing the amazing cultural diversity
of the Albany Park Community and celebrating the differences
that show us all how much we truly have in common.
The Moonbeam Children's Theatre is also celebrating
diversity with their winter performance, "Holidays Around
the World." Ensemble members created this show in
collaboration with Kidworks Children's Theatre, a touring theatre group
that teaches students valuable life skills such as conflict
management and making friends.
In addition to these great events, APCC has supported
community diversity throughout the year by sustaining
winning programs and adding valuable new components. More
than 100 adult students passed the Citizenship Test since
January thanks in large part to our Adult Education
department. In Workforce Development, we developed a Veteran’s Initiative, offering supportive services for
veterans who have various needs such as clothing, housing,
mental health services, and transportation. In January, we
will begin the first computer classes offered in Spanish
and Arabic languages, enabling more local residents to
bridge the digital divide.
It has been an amazing year here at APCC and we look forward
to continuing our mission in 2007!
